Getting Ready for Air Conditioning Season

April 30, 2016

Summer hasn’t quite made its debut but the temperatures are definitely increasing and that means it’s time for cooling season. Before the summer weather is officially here and you’re running your air conditioner constantly to stay comfortable, don’t forget to call your air conditioning technician to come out and complete your seasonal ac maintenance.

In addition to a Precision A/C tune-up, there are several other ways you can get ready for the cooling season before warmer weather is officially here to stay.

  • Clean Your System

No, we aren’t implying that you should take your air conditioning unit apart, let an expert do that, but you can clean up the ground around your system to get rid of twigs and foliage that have made their way to your air conditioning unit during the windy winter and stormy spring. Mow the grass around the A/C and prune back any overgrown plants or vegetation to make sure your air conditioning unit is clear of debris. Keeping a clear airway can help keep your A/C equipment running properly.

·     Change Your Home’s Air Filters

Midland Air Service Experts will swap out your home’s basic air filters when they conduct your air conditioning tune-up as part of your standard A/C maintenance. You can (and should) also replace your HVAC air filters in between maintenance visits, and it’s recommended that you do so at least every 30-60 days for optimal performance. If you don’t change your air filter it accumulates dust, allergens, and germs so for the health of the people living in your home and the efficiency of your A/C system, make sure you’re changing those filters as part of your standard A/C system service. Note that a clogged filter could even damage your air conditioner.

  • Block the Sun

Help block the sun from heating up your home by hanging blackout drapes or window shades. Hanging drapes or curtains may also help protect your furniture and floors from fading or enduring sun damage over time.

·     Check Alarm Batteries

If you forgot to check the batteries in your smoke and CO detectors over daylight savings, now is the time. Don’t forget to also check the batteries in your thermostat to make sure it is working properly so you don’t end up calling your air conditioning repair technician because your A/C isn’t turning on and then it ends up just being the thermostat. You could also consider purchasing an automated thermostat so you can adjust the temperature while you’re away and save money on your energy bills.

A seasonal air conditioner tune-up service could make your system up to 30% more efficient and save you money on your utility bills. Call Midland Air Service Experts today to make sure your air conditioner is prepared to keep you cool and comfortable all summer and learn about our spring specials on AC Precision tune-ups.
