When the Dallas and Fort Worth Service Experts Heating and Air Conditioning locations (Calverley Service Experts, Service Experts Heating and Air Conditioning Plano/DFW, and Levy and Son) were getting ready to sponsor the Walk MS events in North Dallas and Fort Worth, they wanted to offer something to the event participants.
“Service Experts felt an APCO Air Purifier was the perfect product to auction off since this spring we have been promoting saving the air, and it helps eliminate germs and contaminants from your air that can aggravate allergies and respiratory issues,” said Rob Haines, Marketing Manager for Service Experts.
Kim Speck won the Fresh-Aire UV APCO Air Purifier when she offered the most at the Dallas Walk MS event. Kim first learned about the APCO several months before when she saw an article talking about the significance of indoor air quality.
“I didn’t pay much attention at the time because I didn’t realize its compatibility with nearly any heating and cooling system, and thought it was another one of those “luxuries” that was beyond my budget. When they were auctioning it off at Walk MS event, everyone was talking about the significance of good indoor air quality for people with MS and I just thought of my father.”
Kim’s father was 91 and had lived with COPD for over twenty years. He was required to be on oxygen 24/7/365 for the past four years.
“The allergens in the air aggravated him even though I always installed the more expensive 3M Filtrate brand of home air filters. They just didn’t help. He frequently caught pneumonia despite the fact that he had only left to go out over the past four years to see his doctors.”
The pneumonia would constantly result in Kim’s father spending no less than two months in the hospital and rehabilitation center. Right before the Walk MS event in North Dallas, Kim’s father had spent the majority of the month in the hospital and a few days at the rehab facility recuperating from two strings of pneumonia. After watching her father endure so much, Kim resolved she was ready to “roll the dice” and try to win the APCO, which had two great benefits: her dad would finally come home to “clean” air and all the money went to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Kim was over the moon when she found out she won and planned on having the APCO installed in her father’s house before he was discharged from the rehab facility. Regrettably, only three days after the MS Walk, Kim’s father came home to hospice care and passed away peacefully on April 16th. The APCO arrived the following week.
Kim chose to have the APCO installed in her own house since her husband has issues with allergies. Shortly after it was installed, she was cooking onions and realized she couldn’t smell any onion smells once she was done. She’s excited to see the long-term effects of the system.
Everyone here at Midland Air Service Experts sends their thoughts and prayers to Kim and her family.
