Here's What to Do When Your Furnace Won't Ignite

February 23, 2017

We are trudging through the last of the weeks of winter but we still need our furnaces, especially during cool nights. Nothing is worse than going to bed at night just to realize your furnace won’t start up. If you find yourself in this situation, here are a few things you can check yourself before your call Midland Air Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning.

Check Air Filters

You should replace standard air filters each month. If you don’t, they can end up clogged, blocking air flow and resulting in your furnace malfunctioning.

Check Your Thermostat

Try turning the temperature up a few degrees to get the furnace to kick on. If the true room temperature is higher than the thermostat, the heating system won’t turn on. Also, make sure the system switch is on “heat” or “auto.”

Check the Power

It may seem ridiculous, but make sure the power switch next to the heating system is “On.” Even gas heating equipment uses electricity so confirm the breaker has not tripped and that the power switch has not been accidently switched to the “Off” position.

If you inspect all these things and your heating equipment will still not start up, give Midland Air Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning a call at 803-399-7208 and we’ll come out and take care of you as soon as possible.
